Running Map - San Vicente Boulevard

San Vicente Boulevard

In a city that has so much open space, it is a pity that there aren't more streets like this. San Vicente Boulevard, although a major street, has a beautiful strip of grass running down the middle, splitting the traffic. This leaves the runner with the option of hitting the pavement, or taking advantage of that nice organic green cushioning the city has growing. It is wide enough for groups to run - bring a friend!

This run naturally divides itself into two distinct areas that split around 26th street.

East of 26th Street - Country Club and Commercial

The grass strip begins at the intersection of San Vicente Boulevard and Bringham Avenue. If you run west towards the beach you'll find you are in the more commercial portion of the run. Soon you'll have the Brentwood Country Club Golf Course on your left hand side, which is a sign that the scenery is about to change.

26th Street to the Beach

At 26th Street, San Vicente Boulevard takes a turn and you'll be in a much quieter and tranquil residential neighborhood. You'll likely find other runners in this area, as it is a popular place to run.

4th Street Steps - Santa Monica Steps

There are many names for this spot, but regardless of what you choose to call it your legs will start quiver in fear. Once you hit 4th Street, you have the option to take a right to the 4th Street Steps - 189 steps of quads burning.

Video

This video isn't great, but it does show a guy running on the grass strip that runs the length of San Vicente Boulevard. As you can see, there is a wonderful flat stretch of easy on your knees running.
