Welcome to the RYC Book Club

Okay, so it really isn't a book club in its traditional sense (tried that, but it was tough to schedule online). It is just a place to have an open dialog about running books. Read along with other runners and have an in depth online discussion about various running books.

I'll be adding posts to the message board for each book as I'm reading (or re-reading) them. Please feel free to post your thoughts on the books. I'd love to hear from you. Please join the discussion at our Book Club message board.

If you would like to purchase a copy of these books please consider using our link to Amazon. It is essentially the same thing as ordering through Amazon.com, but this will help keep this site online. I really appreciate it.

I look forward to chatting with you .

Books List:

Running With the Buffaloes (7/18/08)

If you are training for a fall marathon or getting ready for the next Cross-Country season, this book is for you. It is a great summer running book that will keep you motivated to maintain your high mileage. The best thing about this book is its great story - drama, tragedy, and all the highs and lows to keep you glued to the page. You'll get a great glimpse into some of our past and current Olympians in their college glory. Enjoy. Read my Review.

Long Slow Distance (7/08/08)

If you are a Joe Henderson fan, the Runner's World author, this one is for you. "Long Slow Distance" is an out of print book, but is available for free at the author's website. For all of you struggling with their complicated tempo, fartlek, and interval schedule, please give this a read. There is another way... Available online for FREE, but if you are like me you're going to want a hard copy - I recommend Amazon.com (see side ad). Read my Review.

Ultramarathon Man (6/24/08)

For our inaugural book, I've chosen "Ultramarathon Man: Confessions of an All-Night Runner", by Dean Karnazes. It is an autobiography, where Dean takes you from his mid-life crisis to running amazing distances and adventures. I've met a few non-runners who enjoyed this book, so I know that it even appeals to those who generally don't read running books. For a biography, it was a really fast read and an enjoyable book. I highly recommend it. Read my Review.
