I haven’t read “Once a Runner: A Novel
” in a long time, so I thought it was about time to revisit the classic. Many runners seem to argue that this is the best running fiction out there. It definitely has achieved that cult classic status, which I think was partially elevated by its out-of-print status. What makes this book special is that it is told through the eye of the author, Kenny Moore, an Olympian (4th in the Marathon at Munich) who was competing with or running with all the greats discussed in this book. So, this isn’t a collection of mini biographies, but a collection of personal experiences Kenny Moore has had with the legends of his time.
